Il existe deux versions très légèrement différentes de ce noël (version 2)

Nous arriverons dans la soirée ; Allons-y tout exprès — Nous chanterons noé. 2- Là-bas vous trouverez les anges, Et mêm' tous les archanges Qui s'en vont chantant La gloire de ce nouveau-né, Avec l' bon Saint Joseph — Nous chanterons noé. 3- Et voici venir tous les pâtres, Qui, guidés par les astres, Portent leurs paniers. L'un du fromag' lui a donné Et l'autre un chausse-pied — Nous chanterons noé. 4- Puis les bergères accoururent, Et toutes lui voulurent Porter des cadeaux. We'll arrive about midnight; Let's go there expressly — And we'll sing Noel. 2- There you'll find the angels And also all the archangels Who are singing This newborn's glory, Along with Saint Joseph — And we'll sing Noel. 3- Here came all the shepherds, Guided by the stars, With their baskets. One gave him some cheese, And another a shoehorn — And we'll sing Noel. 4- Then the shepherdesses came running And [they] all wanted To bring him something. One kissed his holy hands (1)/ One brought him kindling And another adored him / and another some boxes And we'll sing Noel. 5- When the three kings heard this, All three came To bring him their presents: One gave him gold, myrrh, And the other aloe — And we'll sing Noel. 6- And Saint Joseph saw his beloved, The Virgin Mary, Who'd borne the child; He sat down in a corner on his straw mattress, Thinking upon this event — And we'll sing Noel. 7- But then he gathered his courage Seeing the fine face Of this gentle God; He went all around to find cypress wood To make his cradle — And we'll sing Noel 8- To Saint Joseph came an angel Who was bringing the news Of the betrayal. (1) The first part of these two lines has been replaced by the second part written in smaller letters at the end of each line on the ms. (2) "But": we had long discussions about the accuracy of this "but" which doesn't make logical sense; Logically, it should be "So the good man woke up (consequence). Though, the way I imagine the whole thing "in real life", it does: Herod has planned the slaughter of all the baby boys. The angel comes to warn Joseph in his sleep then flies away. The murderers are on their way but Joseph wakes up and flees with wife and son. What is missing to make sense in the verse is a line about the murderers' coming to contrast against so that "but" can be justified. Maybe it's because I could use such a shortcut in my own speech that it never sounded really weird to me. (3) This verse also was a source of many discussions. After adding words and re-ordering the end to make it clearer, here is some additional explanation: First, I take "lou fet" (classical "lo fach") literally "the fact" to mean "the event", i.e. Jesus' birth. So I take it to mean that since they go to Bethlehem dancing, it shows that the birth happened secretly and when the news spread, they all headed for Bethlehem. If it hadn't been a secret, they'd have gone there before. (4) It means that he'll play well, not badly. |
